Analysis of the Mooring Effects of Future Ultra-Large Container Vessels (ULCV) on Port Infrastructures

The size of container vessels is continuously growing, always exceeding expectations. Port authorities and terminals need to constantly adapt face challenges related maritime infrastructure, equipment, operations, as these are the principal areas affected by future Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). Maneuvring at their limits, mooring equipment an increased risk being overloaded. This study aims analyze limitations that present systems may when ULCVs subjected wind passing-ship forces exerted a ULCV through Dynamic Mooring Analysis (DMA). A hypothetical massive with capacity 40,000 TEU compared Emma Maersk, which vessel regularly calls terminals. its current arrangement, experiences higher motion than ULCVs, experience but also moored more stronger lines. translates into considerably loads in system, potentially compromising safe conditions terminal. Mitigating measures proposed limitations. In addition, explores potential new innovative technologies, such high-strength synthetic ropes smart systems, address posed ULCVs. terminal Rotterdam, Europe’s largest sea port, has been analyzed case study. located next busy fairway leads other terminals, justifying both effects on ships.
